Dear SSEA Conference Attendees Traveling from Outside the USA,
As you continue planning your travel for the conference in Charleston, we want to share some resources to assist you in preparing for cross-border travel. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please let us know.
Travel Advisories
Before traveling to any destination abroad, please ensure you have reviewed the most up-to-date information on your government’s travel advisory information. For information on safety and security as well as entry and exit requirements for the United States, please visit: https://www.cbp.gov/travel
Changing US Requirements
The required documentation for some travel to the United States has been updated. These changes may affect a current or future stay. In particular, new regulations require foreign nationals visiting the United States for periods longer than 30 days to be registered with the United States Government. Travelers should consult the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website to determine if they need to register with USCIS and how to do so.
Additional information for travel to the US is available here:
International SOS and Safety Abroad
Many universities have partnered with International SOS, which provides support while traveling on university-sanctioned trips. Please check with your university to determine whether you have access to this service. Additionally, verify whether your organization has information about traveling abroad and if there are any requirements to register your travel with the university prior to your trip.
We are so fortunate to have SSEA members from around the globe. Please make sure to check your own government’s website for any information about travel, including travel advice and advisories.
Wishing everyone a safe and smooth journey to Charleston.
Plan your visit
Charleston is a beautiful, eclectic, historic waterfront city that offers many opportunities for cultural and recreational activities. The city’s historical character is reflected in the stately homes looking out of the Charleston harbor at Fort Sumter. Many music venues and theater groups provide entertainment throughout the year. Several city and county parks offer year-round recreational activities, including camping, canoeing/kayaking, biking, and running. Additionally, the coastal location is ideal for anyone who enjoys fishing, boating, and other water activities, such as surfing, sailing, paddle boarding or ocean kayaking. The nearby barrier islands have beautiful beaches, and Charleston’s moderate climate makes them suitable for enjoyment virtually year-round.
